AMMAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Monday sent a humanitarian aid convoy to Syria, according to a military statement.

The convoy, organized by the Jordanian Armed Forces, comprises 51 trucks carrying essential food items and relief supplies.

The delivery was coordinated with the Syrian government to ensure efficient aid distribution, aiming to ease the living burdens of those affected by the current conditions in the country, the statement said.

The humanitarian convoy came as tens of thousands of civilians are fleeing their homes in Syria's northern city of Aleppo due to clashes between the Syrian interim government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

A ceasefire was reached between the two sides on Friday following days of intense clashes, shelling, and drone strikes in Aleppo's Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh. The last fighters from the SDF withdrew from the city of Aleppo on Sunday.
