ISLAMABAD, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least six people, including a newlywed couple, were killed and nine others injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a wedding house in Pakistan's federal capital, Islamabad, early Sunday, local authorities said.
The explosion occurred at around 2 a.m. local time inside a residential building, where a wedding ceremony was underway, triggering panic and damaging nearby structures, said Irfan Nawaz Memon, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad.
All 15 people trapped under the debris were rescued during the operation, the official said, adding that the injured were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
At least four houses in the surrounding area were affected by the blast, according to rescue officials.
Authorities said the rescue operation had been completed and that the exact cause of the explosion would be determined following a detailed investigation. ■
