China's Shi advances to men's final at Malaysia Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- World No. 1 Shi Yuqi of China beat Denmark's Anders Antonsen on Saturday to reach the men's final of the Malaysia Open.

Shi, the reigning world champion, won 21-13, 21-14 in the semifinal at the Axiata Arena.

"Shi was the better player today," said Antonsen. "I will do my absolute best to get back and try and beat him in the future."

Shi said every encounter with Antonsen tends to be intense and gives him the opportunity to raise his level.

Shi will face Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn in Sunday's final. Shi welcomed the opportunity and said every player is improving and gives their all on court, adding that the final will bring a fresh experience and a new challenge.

China's Wang Zhiyi advanced to the women's final by beating India's Pusarla V. Sindhu 21-16, 21-15. She will play teammate Chen Yufei, who advanced by walkover after South Korea's An Se-young withdrew.

In men's doubles, South Korea's Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae beat England's Ben Lane and Sean Vendy 8-21, 21-11, 21-18, and will face Malaysia's Aaron Chia Teng Fong and Soh Wooi Yik in the final.

In women's doubles, Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning beat South Korea's Jeong Na-eun and Lee Yeon-woo 21-8, 21-17 in a match lasting 61 minutes, and will face South Korea's Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee for the title.

In mixed doubles, Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping beat Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong, China 21-14, 21-14, while teammates Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin defeated Denmark's Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund 21-15, 21-14.

The Malaysia Open runs from Jan. 6 to 11.
