MAPUTO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least 85 people were killed and 70 others injured in Mozambique since October amid the ongoing rainy season, according to local media O Pais.

Citing a report by the country's disaster management authorities, more than 105,000 people were affected by adverse weather conditions during the period.

Figures show that over the same period, 9,851 houses were totally or partially destroyed, while another 8,969 were flooded. In the agricultural sector, more than 6,400 hectares of farmland were inundated, and about 17.7 hectares were lost, affecting 2,866 farmers.

The report added that the ongoing rainy season has led to the opening of 15 accommodation centers nationwide. Of these, 11 have since closed, while four remain operational, having sheltered a cumulative total of 4,303 people.

Mozambique is currently in the peak of its rainy season, a period marked by frequent alerts for heavy rains and strong winds, particularly in the central and southern regions.
