JERUSALEM, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the country's domestic security agency Shin Bet (ISA) said in a joint statement on Friday that they had carried out strikes in the northern and southern Gaza Strip.
The statement said the strikes were in response to a failed rocket launch from Gaza on Thursday toward an area inside Gaza City where Israeli troops were operating.
"The projectile that was launched from the Gaza Strip constitutes a violation of the ceasefire agreement," it said.
"The IDF and ISA condemn any violation of the agreement and will continue to operate to thwart any attempt by the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip to execute terrorist attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians," it added.
On Thursday night, Palestine's official news agency WAFA reported that six Palestinian civilians were killed and several others injured after Israeli warplanes bombed a house in al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza and a warehouse and home in Gaza City. ■
