KABUL, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have initiated construction on 17 development projects in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province, the official media Bakhtar news agency reported Friday.
The projects, with a total cost of 43 million afghanis (about 651,602 U.S. dollars), include the construction of water canals, retaining walls and small dams. The initiatives aim to improve living conditions, enhance irrigation systems and support agricultural productivity for thousands of residents in the province, the report said.
The Afghan government plans to implement similar development projects across the country to address ongoing economic challenges, create jobs and improve basic infrastructure in regions affected by years of conflict, the report added.
Khost province, located along Afghanistan's southeastern border, has historically faced water shortages and limited infrastructure, affecting both agriculture and daily life. ■
