DAKAR, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Senegal's oil production reached 36.1 million barrels of crude oil in 2025, exceeding the initial targets set for the year, the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines announced on Wednesday.
The ministry said the initial projection of 30.53 million barrels for 2025 was revised upward in June, ultimately reaching a total of 36.1 million barrels. This performance reflects "a favorable reservoir response, the integrity of the wells, and the robustness of operational performance" at the Sangomar offshore oil platform, located off Senegal's coast.
In December 2025 alone, three cargoes totaling 2.94 million barrels of crude oil were marketed on the international market.
Alongside the oil sector, three cargoes of liquefied natural gas, totaling 0.5 million cubic meters, were exported in December from the transboundary Grand Tortue Ahmeyim gas field, which is jointly operated with Mauritania.
Located about 100 km offshore from Dakar, the capital of the West African country, the Sangomar field began oil extraction in June 2024. ■
