WINDHOEK, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's annual inflation rate eased to 3.2 percent in December 2025, down from 3.4 percent recorded in the same month a year earlier, the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) said in a statement released on Thursday.

On a month-on-month basis, inflation edged up by 0.1 percent, compared with no change recorded in November, indicating relatively stable price movements toward the end of the year.

Despite the overall slowdown, price pressures remained pronounced in several expenditure categories.

Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels recorded an annual increase of 4.5 percent, slightly higher than the 4.4 percent observed a year earlier, making it the fastest-rising category, according to the statistics office.

This was followed by education and recreation and culture, both of which registered inflation of 4.3 percent.

Prices in hotels, cafes, and restaurants rose by 4.2 percent, while alcoholic beverages and tobacco recorded a surge of 3.7 percent.

Disaggregated data showed that goods inflation moderated to 2.7 percent year-on-year in December 2025, down from 3.1 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year, reflecting easing price pressures in tradable items.

In contrast, services inflation edged higher, rising to 4.0 percent, from 3.9 percent recorded in December 2024.

Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices and is considered a measure of underlying inflationary trends, stood at 3.4 percent, slightly above the headline inflation rate of 3.2 percent.
