KABUL, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered and confiscated 21 pieces of firearms and taken into custody 18 individuals on charges of keeping and carrying the weaponry illegally in the eastern Parwan province over the past three months, provincial police spokesman Fazal Rahim Muskinyar said Wednesday.
The weaponry, which included eight Kalashnikovs, one stock M16, seven pistols, five more hunting guns and hundreds of bullets and projectiles, has been recovered during a series of operations and 18 persons have been arrested, the official added.
Police will not allow anyone to disrupt law and order by keeping and carrying unauthorized weapons in the province, the official went on to say.
As part of efforts to ensure law and order in post-war Afghanistan, the Afghan government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside the security organs of the administration. ■
