HANOI, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's southern hub Ho Chi Minh City plans to build a political and administrative center in the Thu Thiem new urban area, aiming to create a centralized and modern working space to support the governance of a major metropolis, local daily VnExpress reported Wednesday.
The center is designed to be a 26-story building and will be developed under an environmentally friendly model, featuring open spaces to facilitate public access to administrative services.
City authorities are scheduled to complete planning and investment procedures and break ground on the project in the first quarter of this year. The center is expected to become operational in 2027.
The Thu Thiem new urban area, located on the western side of the Saigon River, covers an area of 930 hectares. The area currently has a population of about 200,000 people. ■
