MINSK, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian gold and foreign exchange reserves have reached a new all-time high, the country's central bank said on Tuesday.

Belarusian gold and foreign exchange reserves increased by 5.5 billion U.S. dollars over 2025 and exceeded 14.4 billion as of Jan. 1, 2026, the bank said.

In December 2025, the country's reserves increased by 526.2 million dollars, a rise of 3.8 percent.

The reserve portfolio is primarily composed of foreign currency and monetary gold. In December 2025, foreign currency reserves saw an increase of 296.9 million to 5.54 billion, and holdings of monetary gold grew by 214.1 million, reaching a substantial 7.47 billion.

The new record significantly outperforms the government's initial plans, which had set a target for the foreign exchange reserves to reach at least 7.1 billion by the end of 2025.

According to the targets of the monetary policy, the volume of Belarus' international reserve assets is projected to be no less than 9.2 billion by the end of 2026.
