KABUL, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities inaugurated a 22.75 Megawatt solar power plant on the eastern edge of Kabul on Tuesday to help solve the power shortage in the post-war country.
The government is committed to building more power plants from domestic sources, including water, coal, solar and wind resources to achieve self-sufficiency in the electricity field, General Director of Breshna Shirkat or Electricity Company, Abdul Bari Umar, said in his opening remarks.
Marking a significant achievement towards reducing dependence on imported electricity, the facility, constructed at a cost of 18.2 million U.S. dollars by a Turkish company within more than a year, would provide stable electricity to more than 23,000 households. ■
