Egyptian president meets Saudi FM on ties, regional issues

CAIRO, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud met here on Monday to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues.

Sisi lauded the Saudi efforts for achieving development and prosperity in the kingdom, emphasizing Egypt's commitment to promoting closer cooperation with Saudi Arabia at different levels, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency.

The Egyptian president also commended the Saudi's efforts to host a comprehensive conference bringing together southern Yemeni parties for a dialogue.

For his part, the Saudi foreign minister affirmed the kingdom's commitment to strengthening the firm relations with Egypt and enhancing bilateral political consultations.

The meeting addressed pressing regional issues. Both sides agreed on the need for peaceful solutions that uphold state sovereignty and territorial integrity, with a focus on Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, and the Gaza Strip.

The Saudi foreign minister arrived in Cairo for an official visit on Sunday evening.
