KABUL, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have uncovered and dismantled a drug manufacturing facility in southern Helmand province, arresting 20 individuals in connection with the case, authorities confirmed on Monday.
According to Mullah Nasir Ahmad Mohajer, spokesperson for the provincial police headquarters, the operation resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics and related materials.
Confiscated items included 50 kilograms of processed narcotics, 15 kilograms of liquid heroin, 120 kilograms of heroin paste, as well as thousands of liters of other narcotic substances and materials used in drug production.
The facility was completely destroyed during the operation. The 20 detainees will be handed over to judicial authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings, the official added.
Afghan authorities have emphasized that counter-narcotics operations remain a key priority in their ongoing efforts to combat drug production and trafficking across the country. ■
