BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Liu Shaoyong, former chairman of China Eastern Airlines, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) over serious violations of Party discipline and laws, China's top anti-graft agency announced on Sunday.
Upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Commission of Supervision (NCS) conducted an investigation into Liu, according to a statement from the CCDI and NCS.
The investigation found that Liu had lost his ideals and convictions, been uncooperative during the course of the investigation, and disregarded the Party Central Committee's eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct, the statement said.
It accused him of taking advantage of his post and influence to secure benefits for relatives in such business operations as the management of private equity funds.
He was also found to have abused his power to secure benefits for others in project contracting, flight management and aircraft leasing, accepting large sums of money and gifts in return.
In line with relevant regulations and laws, the Party has made the decision to expel him, confiscate his illicit gains and hand his case over for judicial proceedings. ■
