DAMASCUS, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed, and several members of Syria's internal security forces were wounded on Wednesday after a suicide bomber targeted a police patrol in the Bab al-Faraj area of northern Syria's Aleppo city, according to several state media reports.

SANA news agency reported that the attacker detonated himself near a patrol of the internal security forces. The wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.

Al-Ikhbariyah TV reported that the attacker detonated himself during a security check after officers grew suspicious of his behavior.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the incident, without providing confirmed figures of casualties.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident came amid heightened security across several Syrian cities following a series of attacks targeting security forces and civilians.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the identity of the attacker or the circumstances surrounding the bombing.
