HANOI, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's capital Hanoi plans to start building a two-level road tunnel crossing the Red River in 2026, with a total investment of nearly 22 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 874 million U.S. dollars), local media Voice of Vietnam reported Wednesday.
The tunnel will be located between Thang Long Bridge and Nhat Tan Bridge, an area currently facing heavy daily cross-river traffic.
The project aims to ease pressure on existing bridges and enhance traffic connectivity between the northern areas of the capital.
The road tunnel will have a total length of about 5.6 km, including a river-crossing section of approximately 3.5 km, and will consist of two parallel tunnel tubes, each with a diameter of 15.2 meters. ■
