LISBON, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- One person died on Monday after being struck at Rossio metro station in central Lisbon, prompting the suspension of train services in the south-to-north direction from around 10 a.m. local time, the Lisbon Fire Brigade said.
In a statement published on its website, Lisbon Metro said services on the affected section had been interrupted and that it was not possible to predict how long the disruption would last. "Metro is making every effort to resume circulation as soon as possible," the statement said.
The Green Line, one of Lisbon Metro's main routes, connects the city center with eastern neighborhoods and serves thousands of commuters daily.
Rossio station is located in one of Lisbon's busiest central areas and is a major transportation hub linking metro, train and bus services.
As of press time, metro authorities have not released further details on the circumstances of the incident or the identity of the victim. ■
