China's total cross-border e-commerce import and export value reached 1.37 trillion yuan in the first half of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent. The rapid growth of the cross-border e-commerce industry has led to a surge in job demand. The "cross-border e-commerce operations manager" has been added to the 17 new professions unveiled by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security in 2025.
Tang Hexia, 29, an employee of Mexin Group, a door and window manufacturer based in Chongqing, became a cross-border e-commerce operations manager in 2025. She joined the cross-border e-commerce department of the company with colleagues Deng Yong and Wen Yu.
Their main duties include selling products in foreign languages via overseas e-commerce platforms, responding to customer inquiries, and offering customization and after-sales services. They also perform market analysis to optimize e-commerce platform pages of the company and adjust their service models according to foreign customers' preferences.
Creating short videos is also part of Tang's job. She and colleagues post videos on overseas social media platforms to introduce products and to expand the brand's influence.
Cross-border e-commerce involves not only communicating with foreign customers in their languages, but also understanding their lifestyles and ways of thinking, Tang stated. Cross-border e-commerce operations managers must be knowledgeable about product features, accurately relay clients' requirements to the production department, and grasp the preferences and demands of overseas consumers.
Tang has strong confidence in the prospect of this profession and hopes to boost the global recognition of Chinese brands through innovative efforts in the future. (Xinhua/Tang Yi)
