KABUL, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics police have seized over 1,000 kg of illicit drugs, including 266 kg of hashish, during a search operation in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province, provincial police spokesman Mullah Ezatullah Haqqani said on Wednesday night.
The smugglers had concealed the contraband in hidden sections within vehicles while attempting to transport it to an unknown destination. However, police uncovered the drugs in the Baghran and Nahr-e-Saraj districts during routine checkpoints, the spokesman added.
Four individuals were arrested on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking. Following initial investigations, they were transferred to judicial authorities for further processing, said Haqqani.
The Afghan government has intensified its efforts to combat illicit drugs and related activities, pledging to continue the fight until the country is completely free from poppy cultivation and the production of heroin and other narcotics. ■
