KABUL, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Education has established 6,276 literacy educational centers across the country so far this year, aiming to reduce illiteracy and improve basic reading and writing skills among youths and adults, local media Tolo news reported Thursday.
The centers, launched in both urban and rural areas, are staffed by 4,317 teachers, who are currently instructing 11,519 students, highlighting the government's commitment to expanding educational opportunities nationwide, the report said.
The initiative is particularly focused on underserved communities, supporting grassroots human resource development and strengthening social capacity.
The literacy programs are part of broader efforts to boost the educational sector and promote sustainable social and economic development throughout Afghanistan. ■
