TOKYO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- An express train collided with a car at a railway crossing in the town of Seika, Kyoto Prefecture, on Saturday, police and fire officials said, adding that they were still confirming whether there were any casualties.
The accident occurred at around 11 a.m. local time when the train struck the car as it was passing through the crossing, according to local authorities. The car caught fire following the collision, with flames spreading to part of the train.
The fire was brought under control about 50 minutes later, officials said.
About 100 passengers were on board the train at the time of the accident. No injuries among passengers have been reported, and all were safely evacuated.
Rescue teams are continuing efforts to assist those inside the car, while the extent of any injuries or fatalities remains under investigation. ■
