MEXICO CITY, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Thursday reaffirmed her strategy of keeping a "cool head" and pursuing dialogue with the United States, without compromising the fundamental principles of non-intervention and respect for sovereignty.
At a morning press conference, Sheinbaum said that her government's strategy centers on avoiding confrontation and prioritizing consensus-based solutions.
"Our position with the United States has always been to seek agreement. That is the position we have taken ... not to create conflict, but rather to seek the best possible agreement, while very firmly maintaining our principles: no intervention, no meddling and coordination without subordination," she said.
To that end, Sheinbaum celebrated the fact that the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean recognized Mexico's efforts to negotiate with the United States over its tariff policies.
The Mexican president also expressed optimism regarding the upcoming review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on free trade.
"Always seeking the best possible agreement with the United States government has worked for us so far, and we will continue this approach of avoiding conflict, keeping a cool head, and always seeking agreement on all the issues we have with them, which are numerous, including protecting our brothers and sisters in the United States ... and strengthening consulates and consular services," Sheinbaum concluded. ■
