KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) - The cultural and creative industry contributed 6.8 percent to Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP), fueling 130.7 billion ringgit (31.97 billion U.S. dollars) in 2024, according to official data.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement on Thursday that the cultural and creative industry further expanded to 7.1 percent compared to 4.5 percent in the preceding year.
In terms of international trade, exports of creative products rebounded to 12.4 percent (63 billion ringgit) in 2024, compared with a decline of 1.1 percent in the previous year.
Imports of creative products continued to record double-digit growth at 15.8 percent (43.9 billion ringgit) as compared to 22.3 percent in 2023. (1 ringgit equals 0.24 U.S. dollars) ■
