MOSCOW, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Russia's fish exports are expected to reach 6 billion U.S. dollars by 2025, marking a significant increase compared with 2024, according to the country's fisheries agency.

The growth in exports is driven mainly by higher value rather than by increased volumes, said the head of Russia's Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov on Friday, noting that 30 to 35 percent of Russia's total exports are processed products rather than raw materials.

Featuring abundant fishery resources, Russia's Sea of Azov and Lake Baikal have seen an increase in sturgeon and omul fish respectively in recent years, he said.

The catch volumes of various aquatic biological resources nationwide have exceeded last year's levels, Shestakov said, adding that modern technologies are being applied to ensure more efficient vessel operations and to better detect fish stocks.
