LONDON, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The British government on Thursday appointed Christian Turner, a senior diplomat recently named as ambassador to the United Nations, as its new ambassador to the United States.
Turner, whom the British Foreign Office described as "one of the UK's most experienced senior diplomats," will replace Peter Mandelson, who was dismissed in September after a scandal linked to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
According to official biographies, Turner was appointed Britain's ambassador and permanent representative to the UN in New York in May but had not yet formally taken up that post. He previously served as political director at the British Foreign Office, and was Britain's high commissioner to Pakistan from 2019 to 2023. ■
