BEIJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's national observatory on Thursday evening renewed a yellow alert for heavy fog in some parts of the country.
From Thursday evening to Friday morning, thick fog is expected to shroud Beijing, Tianjin, and parts of Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Guizhou, and the Sichuan Basin, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
In some regions of Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Shandong, Hubei, Sichuan and Chongqing, visibility may drop below 200 meters, the NMC said.
Drivers have been asked to maintain safe speeds, and airports, freeways and ports have been instructed to take appropriate safety measures.
The NMC has also forecasted that a cold wave will sweep across China from Friday to Sunday, resulting temperature drops.
Affected by the cold air, the country's central and eastern regions will see temperature drops of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius during the period. In some areas of northwest China, Inner Mongolia, northeast China, the Yangtze River and the Huai River, and regions south of the Yangtze River, the temperature will drop by 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, according to the NMC. ■
