MOSCOW, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Russia has completed testing its first 70-qubit quantum computer using ytterbium ions, Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom said Thursday.
Presented by a research team from the Lebedev Physical Institute (LPI), the computer successfully demonstrated its capabilities in a control experiment, documenting progress of Russia's quantum computing roadmap project managed by Rosatom, it said.
According to LPI, the test represents a breakthrough in Russia's quantum computing research, paving the way for tackling a broader range of problems and opening up new applications across industries.
LPI noted that Russia plans to develop medium-scale quantum computers by 2030, employing effective error-correction mechanisms and complex quantum algorithms to solve real-world industrial problems. ■
