KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) campaign is expected to act as a key catalyst for the country's tourism sector next year, underpinning growth in the services sector and supporting domestic consumption, according to economists.

MBSB Research said in its recent report that it sees VMY2026 as a catalyst for Malaysia's tourism sector next year.

"The tourism sector will remain a key growth driver for the services sector and provide additional support to overall consumption," the research house said.

It noted that Malaysia's year-to-date increase in tourist arrivals reflects a continued rise in the tourism sector.

Nomura Research believes that the right foundations and initiatives are in place by the Malaysian government for continued strong growth in 2026.

"While the campaign's success will also depend on external factors (global economic conditions and geopolitical stability), we believe that with the strong tourism marketing blitz and affordable attractions, Malaysia is likely to continue to deliver resilient tourism growth next year as well," said the research house.
