KABUL, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,000 Afghan refugee families returned to their homeland from neighboring Iran and Pakistan on Monday, Afghanistan's High Commission for Addressing Returnees Problems announced.

The returnees crossed into Afghanistan through several border points, including Islam Qala in western Herat province, Torkham in eastern Nangarhar province, Spin Boldak in southern Kandahar province, and Abrisham in western Nimroz province, it said.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, over 700,000 Afghans have been expelled from Pakistan, while more than 2 million have been forced to leave Iran since the beginning of 2025.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation has been actively working to provide support to returnees, while also addressing the broader challenges of displacement and migration.
