RAMALLAH, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian man was killed on Sunday by Israeli forces near the Kiryat Arba settlement, adjacent to the southern West Bank city of Hebron, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
The Ramallah-based ministry identified the man as Mohammed al-Shrouf, 23, saying he was shot at the northern entrance to Hebron. It added that Israeli forces seized his body and prevented ambulances from reaching the scene.
Israeli media reported that a Palestinian attempted to stab Israeli soldiers in the Kiryat Arba area, prompting the troops to open fire and kill him. No Israeli soldiers were injured, the reports said.
Video footage from the scene showed a heavy Israeli military presence. Israeli forces also raided the home of the man's family in the town of Nuba, near Hebron.
Violence has surged in the West Bank since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. More than 1,080 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since then, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. ■
