BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin on Monday urged the United States to recalibrate its strategic perception of China, stop sending the wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and cease escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

Jiang made the remarks in response to a media query on a new U.S. national security strategy document, which states that the United States does not support any unilateral change to the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

The recently passed U.S. National Defense Authorization Act also attempts to meddle in Taiwan-related issues, as did earlier remarks by the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

"There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is a part of China. These are indisputable facts based on history and jurisprudence, and they are also the unchangeable status quo in the Taiwan Strait," Jiang said.

He noted that how to resolve the Taiwan question is a matter for China, which brooks no external interference, and that any attempt to use Taiwan to contain China is doomed to fail.
