UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Friday adopted a resolution to renew the mandate of the panel of experts assisting the Al-Shabaab Sanctions Committee.
Resolution 2806, which won the unanimous support of the 15-member council, renews the mandate of the panel of experts until Dec. 31, 2026. It expresses the council's intention to review the mandate of the panel no later than Nov. 30, 2026.
The resolution also renews until Nov. 30, 2026 the authorization for maritime interdiction to enforce the embargo on illicit arms imports, the charcoal export ban, and the improvised explosive device components ban.
Other measures of the sanctions regime targeting Somalia-based Al-Shabaab, including an arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze, are open-ended. ■
