YANGON, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 62 people were killed and 319 were injured in 170 traffic accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway between January and November this year, according to the highway traffic police force on Friday.
This marks a decrease in accidents, fatalities and injuries compared with the same period last year, which recorded 189 accidents, resulting in 87 deaths and 338 injuries, an official from the highway traffic police force told Xinhua.
During this period, the traffic accidents also caused damage estimated at over 852 million kyats (about 405,714 U.S. dollars), he said.
The 587 km Yangon-Mandalay expressway connects the country's commercial city of Yangon and the second-largest city of Mandalay. ■
