RIGA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Polish President Karol Nawrocki arrived in Riga on a working visit Thursday, with security and defense issues topping the agenda, Latvian public media reported.
During their talks, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics and Polish President Nawrocki mainly addressed security concerns, including measures to strengthen the European Union's eastern flank and ways to enhance cooperation with the United States and other European partners.
Highlighting the close historical ties between the two countries and their shared strategic objectives, Nawrocki said "We see this historical foundation on the one hand and our common goals on the other." Poland and Latvia remain united by their commitment to the Euro-Atlantic community, national independence, security, and cooperation on major infrastructure projects.
Both presidents also pledged to deepen economic cooperation. Rinkevics said energy, transport and technology are key areas where the two sides can advance joint initiatives. They also discussed regional infrastructure projects such as the Via Baltica highway and the Rail Baltica railway.
"These issues require our joint efforts, both for Poland and for the Baltic states," Rinkevics said. ■
