LUSAKA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Zambian Vice President Mutale Nalumango said on Thursday that about 617,515 people in Zambia are expected to be impacted by the 2025/2026 rainy season.

According to Nalumango, an assessment, conducted in collaboration with the United Nations systems and other stakeholders, projects that about 37 districts will be affected by floods, with another 46 districts to experience dry spells.

Nalumango said the hazards are expected to impact 617,515 people, translating to 128,649 households.

The government has activated clusters such as agriculture, food security and livestock, education, energy, and health, as well as emergency logistics, to avert and minimize the impact of the hazards on people's lives, livelihoods, and the environment, she said.

The official added that the government is already pre-positioning food and non-food items in flood-prone and hard-to-reach areas, increasing surveillance of animal and human diseases, and encouraging the permanent relocation of people living in areas prone to floods.
