HONG KONG, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po has accumulated a total of 3.4 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 437 million U.S. dollars), and each affected homeowner will receive an additional 100,000 Hong Kong dollars special grant on top of the financial assistance previously announced by the HKSAR government, according to a press conference on Wednesday.
A total of 3.1 billion Hong Kong dollars of the fund comes from over 263,000 public donations. Among these donations, about 170 are of 5 million Hong Kong dollars or more, accounting for 1.7 billion Hong Kong dollars, said Warner Cheuk, deputy chief secretary for administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government.
The remaining 300 million Hong Kong dollars is the seed fund provided by the HKSAR government, he said. (1 Hong Kong dollar equals about 0.13 U.S. dollars) ■
