MEXICO CITY, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Necaxa has named Uruguay's Martin Varini as its manager for the 2026 Liga MX season, the club said on Monday.
Varini, 34, replaces Argentina's Fernando Gago, who was sacked in November after the team's failure to reach the 2025 Apertura tournament playoffs.
"Hello Rayos, I'm already here to immediately begin a new tournament. We're going all in," Varini said in a video posted on Necaxa's official website.
Varini became available last week after parting ways with Necaxa's Mexican top flight rivals FC Juarez.
The 2026 Liga MX Clausura season will begin on January 9 and is due to end on May 24. ■
