"I think Prime Minister (Takaichi)'s comments were essentially aiming at laying the ground for potential Japanese Self-Defense Forces involvement (in a Taiwan Strait contingency), which are extremely dangerous. Those remarks were unacceptable and should be withdrawn," said a Japanese scholar.
