HANOI, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line in Vietnam's capital Hanoi launched an automated ticketing system on Friday, becoming the country's first public transport service to integrate digital identification, biometric authentication, and cashless payment methods, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

All 12 stations along the line have been upgraded with multi-standard readers compatible with chip-based ID cards, near-field communication (NFC) devices, QR codes, bank cards and credit cards. The system aligns with global cashless payment trends, the report said.

AI-powered cameras installed at fare gates conduct facial recognition by matching passengers' faces against photos stored in their national ID cards to ensure secure and accurate authentication.

Truong Viet Dung, vice chairman of the Hanoi municipal People's Committee, said the launch signals institutional reform in urban transit management based on data and citizen experience.
