HANOI, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in Vietnam's capital Hanoi have advised residents, especially the elderly, children and those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor activities and use face masks on days when air quality declines, local daily Suc Khoe & Doi Song reported Wednesday.

The city's health sector recommends reducing outdoor exposure, particularly in the early morning and at night, the report said.

Hospitals in the city's inner areas will remain on standby to handle a potential rise in respiratory patients during periods of heavy pollution.

Local authorities have asked schools to adjust schedules if pollution becomes severe to ensure student safety.

Several residential areas, parks and major streets in Hanoi will pilot mist spraying to reduce dust and help lower fine particulate levels in the air, according to the report.
