CAIRO, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and 13 others injured when a fire broke out early Wednesday in a four-story clothing warehouse on a crowded commercial street in Dakahlia province's city of Mansoura, north of the Egyptian capital.
According to a statement posted on the official Facebook page of Dakahlia Province, most of the injured suffered from suffocation and remain hospitalized.
Electricity and gas supplies to the building and nearby structures were cut off to contain the blaze, it said, adding that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
Souq al-Khawagat, where the fire broke out, is a well-known market with many small streets. It hosts hundreds of shops, mainly in wholesale clothing. ■
