KABUL, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan authorities have initiated a significant road asphalting project in northern Balkh province, aimed at improving transportation infrastructure and supporting economic development, a local official said late Saturday.
The project to pave an 18 km roadway is estimated to cost around 450 million afghani (around 6.8 million U.S. dollars) in the Kishindi district, according to Haji Zaid, spokesperson for the provincial government.
The upgraded road is expected to substantially improve transportation links between multiple districts within the province, said Zaid, adding that the project will enhance access to markets for locally produced agricultural products and strengthen connectivity among rural communities.
The project is part of an ongoing government commitment to expand road networks and improve physical infrastructure across the war-ravaged Afghanistan. ■
