ZAGREB, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Antonija Jozic, prefect of the Pozega-Slavonia County in eastern Croatia, said she believed that the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) will be able to complete a major expressway project on time.

Jozic attended a ground-breaking ceremony for the Pozega-Godinjak expressway project held on Nov. 11, along with Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic, Chinese Ambassador to Croatia Qi Qianjin, and Ivica Budimir, the chief executive officer of the state-run road operator Croatian Roads.

The 14.75-km Pozega-Godinjak expressway project carries a value of 160 million euros (185.6 million U.S. dollars) and includes the construction of a tunnel, three overpasses, and six underpasses, which is expected to finish construction in four years.

"The project is technically challenging, but I believe that the CRBC will be able to complete it on time and with quality," Jozic told Xinhua, noting that the CRBC is the contractor that has successfully constructed the Peljesac Bridge, the largest infrastructure project in Croatian history.

According to Jozic, the expressway, once completed, will connect Pozega, the administrative and economic center of the Pozega-Slavonia County, to the highway network of Croatia. "It is truly significant because the residents of our county have been waiting for this project for years, and it will certainly boost the economic development of the entire region," she said.
