BUCHAREST, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Romanian government approved on Thursday the National Strategy for the Promotion of Romanian Agri-Food Products 2025-2029, along with its accompanying Action Plan.

According to an official press release, the strategy aims to better capitalize on Romania's agri-food potential by strengthening the presence of local products on both domestic and foreign markets, while supporting the development of rural communities.

It also seeks to turn the agri-food sector into a stronger pillar of the national economy by reducing exports of raw materials and cutting imports of processed food products.

The strategy's specific objectives include boosting domestic consumption of Romanian agri-food goods, improving the promotion of local products abroad, and enhancing cooperation between authorities, producers, processors and consumers, particularly through short supply chains.

It covers all categories of Romanian agri-food products, including traditional, organic, and those registered under European quality schemes such as geographical indications.

A key element of the initiative is the creation of a Market Register, a database containing information on economic operators and their certified products. The register is intended to help consumers more easily identify and choose Romanian food products that meet recognized quality standards.

Implementation of the strategy will be overseen by an Interinstitutional Committee tasked with monitoring progress and ensuring that the measures pledged by the government are effectively carried out through 2029.
