VIENTIANE, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is assisting Laos in developing a sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient economy through its Climate Adaptation Investment Planning (CAIP) technical assistance program.

The CAIP initiative aims to strengthen the Lao government's capacity to identify, prioritize, and mobilize financing for climate adaptation projects using an integrated water resources management approach, Lao News Agency reported on Friday.

Implemented in collaboration with the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Lao Ministry of Finance, the program engages development partners and technical experts to advance climate resilience.

As part of the program, the two ministries, with technical support from ADB, conducted climate risk screenings and reviewed adaptation measures across 14 river basins. The findings will inform the selection of two priority basins for detailed climate risk and adaptation assessments and the identification of investment opportunities under the CAIP framework.

A workshop was held on Thursday in the Lao capital Vientiane, bringing together government agencies, development partners, and key stakeholders to review national adaptation strategies and river basin development plans, discuss the CAIP approach and climate risk screening results, and finalize the selection of two target river basins along with the next steps for implementation.

The workshop underscored ADB's commitment to helping Laos achieve its national adaptation goals and enhance climate resilience through integrated water resources management.
