PHNOM PENH, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Laos have agreed to further deepen their bilateral ties and cooperation for mutual benefits, said a Cambodian foreign ministry's press release on Friday.

The agreement was made during the 15th meeting of the Cambodia-Laos Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, which was held in Vientiane, capital of Laos, on Thursday under the co-chairmanship of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane.

Both ministers had in-depth discussions on ways and means to further deepen the Comprehensive and Long-lasting Strategic Partnership between the two countries, the press release said.

They "reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple fields," it said.

"Both ministers recognized significant potential for expanding trade and investment and agreed to promote closer business-to-business engagement," the press release added.

The two ministers also expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the energy sector through the active implementation of existing agreements and memorandums of understanding.

Sokhonn conveyed his deep appreciation for Laos' energy supply in helping to meet Cambodia's needs, the press release said, adding that both sides also held comprehensive discussions on other key areas, including agriculture, connectivity, tourism, people-to-people linkages, and education.

They reiterated their shared determination to build a common border of peace, friendship, development and cooperation between the two countries.

The two ministers also agreed to hold the next meeting in Cambodia in 2027.
