BAGHDAD, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A member of the Iraqi paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) was killed in a bomb explosion in the western province of Anbar, the PMF said in a statement on Wednesday.
Jumaa Ahmed al-Jughaifi, a member of the PMF's 57th Brigade in Anbar, was killed when an improvised explosive device struck a PMF unit in a desert area of the province, read the statement.
Salih al-Obaidi, a major with the Anbar Provincial Police Command, confirmed that a Sunni tribal force affiliated with the PMF was struck by a roadside bomb during a search operation targeting Islamic State (IS) militants in the Anbar desert.
He confirmed that the blast resulted in the death of one fighter and the injury of another, adding that the device was planted earlier by IS terrorists.
After Iraq declared victory over IS in 2017, remnants of the group continue to carry out attacks against security forces and civilians in urban areas, deserts, and remote regions. ■
