ISLAMABAD, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani authorities foiled a major smuggling attempt and seized goods valued at over 157.7 million rupees (about 550,000 U.S. dollars) in the country's northern Gilgit-Baltistan region, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said on Wednesday.
Pakistan Customs inspected two consignments at the Sost Dry Port and baggage section, and recovered 59,000 Nokia 105 mobile phones with batteries, 5,200 pieces of medicine weighing 318 kg, 3,000 Sildenafil Citrate tablets, and assorted weapon parts.
The board said the operation reflects Pakistan Customs' ongoing efforts to curb smuggling, protect national revenue, and prevent prohibited goods from entering the country. ■
