SOFIA, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The 66th Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation concluded its three-day session here on Tuesday, focusing on cooperation with the European Union (EU) and the role of artificial intelligence in sustainable development. Delegates called for deeper EU engagement and improved regional connectivity.

Dragomir Stoynev, chairperson of the "BSP-United Left" parliamentary group, said EU integration continues to create new opportunities for economic modernization and security in the Black Sea region. He added that Bulgaria is ready to share its experience with the upcoming euro adoption with countries pursuing EU membership.

Petar Kanev, head of Bulgaria's delegation, said the EU's updated strategy for the Black Sea region opens new possibilities for stronger parliamentary involvement. He highlighted planned initiatives, such as a Black Sea coordination hub and new transport and energy corridors, as key drivers of enhanced cooperation.

Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, who currently chairs the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, said active regional economic partnership is essential amid what he described as mounting challenges stemming from the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
